Is there a special trick to placing hot fix crystals on leather?

I am trying to get out of about eight hours of work placing them by hand with glue if possible. I have a heat press but I don't want to melt the leather. If any one has any ideas I would appeciate it greatly.

Here is an application device called the BeJeweler Stone Styler Hot Fix Crystal from Ebay.

From the instructions: "Place tip straight down onto rhinestone (use size tip to match rhinestone). Watch until the glue on back of rhinestone begins to melt. Place rhinestone straight down onto item to be decorated, lift tool straight up. It's that easy!"
